DraftPilot Compatibility with recent MS Word Perpetual Licenses (Office LTSC 2024 and similar, 2022–2024)

Edited

If you're receiving the warning message "MS Word perpetual license detected," you may be using a Microsoft Word perpetual license such as Office LTSC 2024, or another perpetual license issued between 2022 and 2024 (if you are on a perpetual license from before 2022, read this article here).

Although these licenses might appear current due to recent security updates, it's important to understand they do not receive ongoing feature updates provided by Microsoft to subscription-based licenses (Office 365/Microsoft 365).

Why does this matter?

DraftPilot uses advanced features available through Microsoft's Word.js API. However, some critical API functions were released after the launch of your perpetual Word version. As a result, certain DraftPilot functionalities will not operate correctly, which could seem like a software issue but is actually due to limitations of your Word version.

Which specific features won't work fully?

  • Highlights: Highlights are visual cues appearing as blue highlights in your document, indicating where DraftPilot has identified drafting suggestions (see the highlights article here). DraftPilot relies on recent Word API features to accurately place and manage these highlights. Your perpetual Word license (including Office LTSC 2024) does not include these recent APIs. Therefore, highlights will not appear, making it harder to quickly identify where DraftPilot suggestions apply.

But isn't my Word updated?

Even though your Word version receives regular security updates, these updates don't provide access to new APIs or functionality enhancements, which DraftPilot requires.

Recommended Solution

To fully benefit from DraftPilot’s capabilities, we strongly recommend upgrading your Microsoft Word license to a subscription-based plan (Office 365/Microsoft 365). This ensures continuous access to the latest Word.js APIs and full functionality within DraftPilot.
